September is here, and with it comes Organic September- a nationwide campaign led by the Soil Association to celebrate organic food and farming practices. Each year, the campaign highlights the positive impact of organic on people and the planet.

This year’s theme is rooted in the words of agricultural pioneer Sir Albert Howard: “The health of soil, plants, animals and man is one and indivisible.”

It’s a simple truth: the quality of our food begins with the ground beneath our feet. Or as nutritionist Michaela Mazzoni so neatly puts it: “You are what you eat”.

Why Soil Health Matters

Healthy soil is alive. A single teaspoon of rich, organic soil can contain more microorganisms than there are people on Earth. These microbes recycle nutrients, support plant growth, and help store carbon- all while creating the foundation for nutritious food.

Organic farming works with nature. By avoiding synthetic pesticides and fossil fuel-based fertilisers, organic farmers build soils that are fertile, resilient, and full of life. Healthy soil grows healthy plants, and healthy plants nourish us in return.

From Soil Health to Gut Health

This year, Organic September highlights the connection between soil and our own gut microbiome. Just as soil microbes keep plants thriving, the diverse microbes in our gut play a vital role in digestion, immunity, and overall wellbeing.

When we eat organically grown food, we’re not just avoiding unwanted chemicals, we’re also choosing food that supports microbial diversity, both in the soil and in ourselves. In this way, nourishing the soil helps us to nourish our ‘gut garden.’

Organic Matcha, Rooted in Nature

At OMGTea, we’ve always believed that nature knows best. Our matcha is 100% organic, sourced from the Kagoshima region in southern Japan, where volcanic soils are rich in minerals and centuries of expertise ensure sustainable cultivation.

Our farming partners were among the first to grow organic tea in Japan, beginning in 1978. They continue to care for the land through practices such as making their own compost, which enriches the soil naturally and supports long-term fertility.

The result? Vibrant, nutrient-rich matcha that not only tastes amazing but also supports your health and wellbeing. A cup of OMGTea is a cup of calm, clarity, and connection- to yourself, to the farmers, and to the soil it all starts with.

Choosing Organic this September

Every choice we make at the table begins in the soil. By choosing organic, we support healthier soils, more resilient ecosystems, and food that’s better for us- inside and out.

This Organic September, let’s celebrate the indivisible connection between soil health and human health. And what better way to do that than by enjoying a cup of bright green, organic OMGTea matcha?
