The strawberries are in season, the British summer is showing up, and Wimbledon is back. Running from 29 June to 12 July 2026, Wimbledon returns as one of sport’s most iconic events. Beyond the tennis, it’s the traditions we love- pristine grass courts, an allwhite dress code, and strawberries with cream.

A staple for over a century, this simple summer treat reflects Britain’s love of seasonal produce and garden party culture.

A Fresh Take on Wimbledon Flavours

Introducing our Wimbledon-inspired recipes:

Matcha Strawberry Lemonade

A bright, energising drink that blends fresh strawberries with zesty lemonade and that matcha boost we know and love. To make:

  • Muddle 4 strawberries with the juice of a half a lemon (and 1tsp of sugar if you prefer things a little sweeter), then add to a glass.
  • Sieve 1-2g of matcha powder into a bowl, add 10ml warm water and whisk to combine
  • Add ice and garnish with a few slices of fresh lemon
  • Pour your choice of sparkling drink over the ice
  • Add your matcha mixture on top, and garnish with a strawberry.

Matcha Strawberries & Cream

A modern twist on the quintessential Wimbledon dessert.

We’ve paired juicy strawberries with lightly sweetened matcha-infused cream for a beautifully balanced treat. To make, strain 1 gram of matcha powder into a serving of pouring cream and stir until combined.

Why Matcha Fits Right into Sporting Season

With summer sport in full swing, now’s the time to highlight matcha’s performance edge. Here are three key ways it supports your performance, endurance and recovery:

1. Increased fat metabolism

Matcha has been shown to increase the rate of fat oxidation during exercise, meaning your body becomes more efficient at using fat as a fuel source. OMGTea was involved in research with Acadia University in Canada and in partnership with the University of Chichester in the UK, which revealed how quality matcha can significantly increase fat burning during moderate exercise. The findings showed that participants had higher fat burning during brisk walking with quality Matcha green tea. Researchers examined the effects of three weeks daily intake of OMGTea Matcha on substrate oxidation during moderate exercise and the data showed that exercise-induced fat oxidation was significantly increased by 35%!

This is particularly beneficial for those looking to lose weight or improve endurance. Enhanced fat metabolism can also help you sustain longer workouts and improve overall performance.

2. Reduced inflammation

Intense physical activity can lead to increased oxidative stress and inflammation in the body. EGCG (the most potent antioxidant in matcha green tea) reduces inflammation by blocking key inflammatory pathways effectively shutting down the production of proinflammatory chemicals. The result: reduced muscle soreness and therefore quicker recovery. This means you can train harder and recover faster, making consistent progress towards your fitness goals.

3. Energy boost

Matcha provides a unique energy boost thanks to its combination of caffeine and L-theanine. 78% of our 2026 Matcha Challenge participants experienced an increase in energy when consuming matcha daily and specifically noted that energy was sustained for a longer duration than what they experience with other caffeinated drinks such as coffee. This is due to the L-theanine found in quality matcha. Whilst caffeine increases alertness and energy levels, L-theanine ensures a smooth, sustained release of energy without the typical crash associated with other stimulants. This balanced energy boost can help you power through even the most intense workouts with consistent performance.
