Background

For over 15  years, I worked in the fast paced world of women’s magazine and newspaper journalism. It was a great experience, and I was privileged to be sent on stories to report on women’s lives from around the world, from Brazil to Las Vegas Malaysia to Manchester. But I’d always loved sport and adventure and recognised how empowering it was.

And so when my best friend, Holly was diagnosed with cancer and sadly died, I left journalism and began a journey that has brought me to Girls Run the World.

In many respects Girls Run the World, which supports busy women in online  training for running and triathlon, combines my love for sport with my background in journalism. We connect and support women worldwide, and our mission is to help each and every one of them to achieve things they never thought possible.

The OMGTea 60 Second Interview

1. What is your idea of perfect happiness?

Running or riding in the mountains or swimming in a lake, river or sea where I’m just in the moment with no thought of time pressures.

2. Do you live to work or work to live?

Work to live.

3. What one thing are you most passionate about?

Empowering women through running and triathlon, and creating supportive networks.  I am absolutely passionate about the belief that sport can change your perspective on a lot more than just your fitness.

4. What do you consider your greatest achievement?

To date, helping over 4000 women achieve a running or triathlon challenge that they never thought was possible.

5. Who's the person you would most like to share a cup of matcha with and why?

Nelson Mandela, for obvious reasons. I met him when I was working for Marie Claire magazine for a group lunch and sadly, had to leave early! Biggest regret.

6. What is the best piece of advice you could give someone?

Try something new every month. Even if it’s walking down a different street, eating something you’ve never eaten before, trying a new exercise. It helps to keep you open to change.

7. If you could have any super power, what would it be and why?

To slow down time, so that I could create more space in my life!

8. What is your motto?

Accept the past, live in the moment, embrace the future.

Race Yoga & Wild Sauna Retreat

Are you running the Brighton Half Marathon on Sunday, February 23rd?

Join the Girls Run the World Wild Sauna Runners' Recovery Retreat at the finish line of the Brighton Half Marathon.

Tickets can be purchased here.

The sauna is part of the incredible Beach Box Sauna, two individually converted saunas that sit right on the beach looking out to sea.

With a glowing wood fired stove heating the saunas, you'll be able to warm yourself up and relax your muscles after the winter race. A cold outdoor shower or a dip in the sea is there for those that dare (we would recommend it!).

Yoga stretching in the larger sauna will also be available on the half hour during the retreat with founder of GRTW, Rachael Woolston.

In addition to the sauna, you'll get a delicious hot bowl of vegan spiced butternut squash soup with bread, a place to drop your bag before the race (so no queuing before and after) and access to the sauna portable toilet (less queuing and clean!).

For women only.
