Earth Day invites a pause- a moment to step back and reflect on how our everyday choices shape the planet we share.
What Is Earth Day?
Marked each year on 22 April, Earth Day has been observed since 1970, when millions of people came together to call for action against pollution and environmental harm. What began as a grassroots movement has grown into a global one, now celebrated in more than 190 countries. It encourages individuals, communities and businesses to reflect on their impact and take meaningful action for the planet.
Our Power, Our Planet
This year’s Earth Day theme is Our Power, Our Planet. To us, that power doesn’t mean dramatic gestures or overnight transformation. It’s quieter than that. It lives in the choices we repeat every day: where we source from, how we ship, what we reuse and how we show up.
When intention guides those decisions, even small shifts can have a meaningful impact over time.
Why Small Intention Matters
Nature doesn’t rush. It grows slowly, steadily, and with purpose. Roots deepen over time. Healthy systems are built through balance, patience and care.
Matcha follows the same rhythm. It’s shade‑grown slowly, harvested carefully and stone‑milled in small batches. And when you prepare it, it asks for your attention- to pause, to whisk, to be present.
That ritual reflects how we think about sustainability too. Not as something loud or performative, but as something thoughtful and embedded into daily life.
What Small Intention Looks Like at Scale
While intention often shows up in personal rituals, it also shapes the larger decisions behind the scenes. For us, protecting our planet isn’t about one bold move- it’s about adjusting how we operate and committing to those choices long term.
Our sustainability actions include:
- Decreased air freight: We prioritise slower, lower‑impact transport wherever possible. It takes more planning, but significantly reduces emissions
- Larger orders and container shipments: By consolidating orders and shipping in larger volumes, we reduce the number of journeys needed to move our matcha.
- Streamlined packaging for our foodservice range: We’ve simplified packaging to reduce material use and unnecessary waste, without compromising quality or food safety.
- Reusing outercase packaging: Instead of treating outer packaging as single‑use, we reuse it wherever we can- extending its life and reducing demand for new materials.
- Responsible travel to work- As a team, we prioritise walking, cycling and travelling by train over driving where possible. Sustainability doesn’t stop at the supply chain- it starts with how we show up every day.
None of these actions feels revolutionary on its own. But together, they form a system rooted in care, accountability and consistency.

Sustainability Without Perfection
Being a B Corp means sustainability isn’t something we revisit once a year- it’s built into how decisions are made every day.
It means consistently choosing progress over perfection. Making thoughtful improvements. Understanding that long‑term environmental impact is created through repeatable habits, not extreme overhauls.
Earth Day is a reminder that collective progress becomes possible when intention becomes routine.
A Gentler Way to Mark Earth Day
The planet doesn’t need us to panic- it needs us to pay attention. To slow down. To choose thoughtfully. To support systems and businesses that are consistently striving to do better.
So this Earth Day, we’re not calling for big change. We’re inviting small intention.
Because when intention becomes part of everyday life, it stops being effort- and that’s where real, lasting change begins.
